Immerse yourself in the culture

Learning at The Wilson

The mission of Learning at The Wilson is to make our service the departure lounge for a voyage of discovery for anyone who wants to get on board. The Foyle Learning Centre on the ground floor is the venue for a wide range of inspiring hands-on activities and imaginative workshops led by The Wilson’s experienced Learning Team.

Bring History and art to Life

School Visits

The Learning Team offers a variety of school workshops linked to our collections and exhibitions. They last for approximately two hours, and when combined with an art workshop, up to three. The workshops consist of an introduction illustrated by a variety of artefacts, pictures and, if appropriate, clothing, followed by a hands-on session during which children undertake a variety of activities on a carousel basis, which may include object handling, drawing and dressing-up.

As The Wilson is temporarily closed for building work, workshops are only currently available as outreach in school. If you are interested in either an Edward Wilson or History of Cheltenham workshop, please email: learning@cheltenhamtrust.org.uk, otherwise, we look forward to welcoming school groups back to The Wilson as soon as we can.

The Wilson Arts Collective

The Wilson Arts Collective (or WAC for short) is a group for young people aged 15 to 25 who love art and culture. The Collective meets weekly to plan and deliver activities and events for other young people aged 15 to 25, developing creative projects that engage with the collections and exhibitions at The Wilson.

Wilson Arts Collective provides important opportunities for young people to gain new experiences, from developing their skills as artists to producing live events. The Collective also supports participants to develop valuable social relationships with other young people, often from very different backgrounds to themselves. The Wilson is an important hub for the Collective to meet, rehearse, take part in workshops, and showcase their work.
