SUMMARY:Suzannah Lipscombe & Kate Williams: To Kill A Queen
DESCRIPTION:Suzannah Lipscomb & Kate Williams — To Kill a Queen: Elizabeth I\, Mary\, Queen of Scots\, and the Politics of SurvivalTwo queens. One crown. A decision that would change the monarchy forever.Join acclaimed historian Suzannah Lipscomb and Kate Williams for this unmissable live event exploring Mary\, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I — two women caught in one of the greatest political and personal crises of the 16th century.Working back from the fall of the axe at Fotheringhay Castle\, the discussion explores the chain of events and decisions that led Elizabeth to sign her cousin’s death warrant. What went so wrong between these two women? Why was Elizabeth so threatened — and could this tragedy have been avoided?Through vivid storytelling\, drawing on the latest research\, Kate and Suzannah will examine espionage\, treason\, and gender politics in the Tudor world\, from William Cecil’s spy networks and Mary’s defiant embroideries to the Babington Plot. They’ll challenge how male historians have long pitted these women against each other and will reframe their choices as acts of courage and consequence.A gripping evening of queenship\, legacy and power\, this is the story of how two queens acted at the greatest crisis point of their lives. Please note\, a £3 ticket commission fee is included in the price of the ticket. If you require a carer ticket\, or have any accessibility requirements please book your tickets over the phone by calling 01242 528 764. SUMMARY:Looking\, Noticing\, Sharing: A Look Club with Debbie Kersley
DESCRIPTION:Join artist and facilitator Debbie Kersley for an hour of slow looking\, noticing and sharing. Using a specific approach called Visual Thinking Strategies\, we’ll take time to look\, talk and listen together in response to a selection of works.Everyone is invited to share what they notice in response to the question\, “What’s going on in this picture?”. Debbie will weave the different observations together\, as we build together a richer\, layered understanding of the work. This approach builds on our lived experiences – no knowledge of art is needed. There are no right or wrong answers. Instead\, it’s a welcoming opportunity to puzzle\, wonder\, hear other perspectives and perhaps change our minds as we look closer and notice more.

SUMMARY:Jeremy Bowen: Truth Under Fire
DESCRIPTION:Gaza. Ukraine. Syria. Sudan. Yemen. The world is facing more armed conflicts than at any point in decades\, and Jeremy Bowen has reported from the centre of nearly all of them.As the BBC’s International Editor\, Jeremy has spent over 40 years covering more than 90 countries and 20 wars. From El Salvador in 1989 to the frontlines today\, he has interviewed world leaders\, documented war crimes\, been shot at\, and survived to tell the stories. But something has changed. Israel imposes restrictions on journalists from entering Gaza. Russia controls the narrative in occupied Ukraine. Governments from Syria to Sudan restrict access\, manipulate information\, and discredit reporters who contradict official accounts. In the age of social media\, competing claims flood our screens\, but who is telling the truth? And how do we know?Jeremy has spent his career fighting for access\, verifying what others want hidden\, and bearing witness when governments would rather the world look away. He will explain how the battle for truth is being waged\, why press freedom is collapsing in conflict zones\, and what it means when the first casualty of war is not just truth\, but those trying to report it.In the second half\, audiences will have the chance to put their questions to a journalist who has made it his life’s work to get as close to the truth as possible — even when that truth is dangerous\, disputed\, or under fire.An essential evening for anyone who wants to understand the world as it is\, not as we wish it to be.Please note\, a £2 ticket commission fee is included in the price of the ticket. If you require a carer ticket\, or have any accessibility requirements please book your tickets over the phone by calling 01242 528 764. The lines are open 9.00am – 5.00pm\, Monday – Friday.
