Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony\, in his own words\, portrays his struggle with Fate: beginning in darkness and mystery\, it ranges through every emotion before emerging victorious in a triumphant finale. These two heavyweights are preceded by Berlioz’s featherlight overture depicting the two quarrelling lovers\, Beatrice and Benedict.
